New Chair sought for Tasmanian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

Maintaining high welfare standards for wildlife, companion animals and livestock is a priority for the Tasmanian Liberal Government.

The Government takes animal welfare extremely seriously and acts on the best technical advice to ensure that we maintain a world-class animal welfare system for the state.

The Tasmanian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC), established under the Animal Welfare Act 1993, advises the Government on animal welfare issues and considering any proposed changes to animal welfare legislation.

Expressions of interest from suitable candidates are now being sought to fill the position of independent AWAC Chairperson.

The Chairperson may be appointed for a maximum term of three years and may also be reappointed. Meetings are held approximately quarterly or as required.

Interested applicants should provide a statement that outlines their interest in and suitability for the position of Chairperson. Expressions of interest should be submitted by 5pm, Monday 13 July 2020.
