Dodges Ferry Ambulance Station upgrades

The Tasmanian Government is embarking on a record $3.1 billion two year construction blitz, to build our way out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Resulting from this, I’m pleased to see a new tender opportunity released for $320,000 worth of upgrades for the Dodges Ferry Ambulance Station.

This station received three new paramedics in 2019 under the Government’s election commitment to deliver 42 new rural and regional paramedics, and these upgrades are now all about ensuring our hardworking paramedics and volunteer ambulance officers are supported with facilities that they deserve.

The works will include vital upgrades to the existing facilities, including:

  • Adding three multipurpose rest and recline rooms, the first time these will be available onsite;
  • Converting the existing training room back to the garage;
  • Refurbishing the existing storeroom and kitchen area with new modern design kitchen and living areas; and
  • Constructing a new storeroom and bathroom.

Our thanks goes to the Sorell Council, which has generously supported this station and the local Dodges Ferry community.

Applications to the tender will close on 15 July, and the completion of the works is expected to be finished by early next year.

Many other health facilities in Lyons have already benefited from our $15 million funding for rural health facilities, including the New Norfolk Hospital, Ouse Community Health Centre, Midlands Multipurpose Health Centre, Tasman Multipurpose Health Centre, and the Government has also recently confirmed a further $10 million for maintenances and upgrades at regional facilities.

Thank you sincerely to our health staff and volunteers across the state who have been working incredibly hard during COVID-19 to ensure our community is safe and continually supported.

This Government is firmly committed to building better facilities for both staff and patients, particularly in our rural communities.
